The theatre building on Trinity Square was built in 1831 thanks to the joint efforts and financial resources of the town, together with its inhabitants. The proof is the Latin title on the front façade of the building which says,
“Isthanc aedem Thaliae po suit senatus ac popolus Tirnaviensis”,
“The City Council and the inhabitants of Trnava built this house of Thalia”.
The current theatre’s name consists of the important Slovak author and playwright’s name only since 2002. The Mirror Hall, where a few of the Trnava Music Spring’s concerts take place, was added to the theatre building during its reconstruction in 1907 as a representative room.
